In late October I travelled to Ukraine for three weeks to work face-to-face in Kyiv with some of my clients there – rather than online – and to see my family.
As there are no flights into the country I flew to Poland and took the overnight sleeper to Kyiv, arriving on the dot. The organisation and dedication of staff on Ukrainian Railways is second to none.
Despite overnight drone attacks, Kyiv wakes every morning, brushes itself down and gets on with business. And there’s always a warm welcome in my local coffee shop before work.
On the first weekend I took time out from work to visit my home town of Kharkiv to see family and friends, and catch with how the city is coping.
Being just 30km from the border there is little warning of incoming air raids but the people are remarkably resilient. And once again the overnight trains both ways were right on time!
Kyiv is such an amazing city, full of history and culture. Spent the last Sunday relaxing with friends, had busy face-to-face work in Kyiv on the Monday and Tuesday before leaving for Poland on the overnight train and flying home on the Wednesday.
I will never be less than inspired by the people’s resilience and determination to overcome.
